How the due date is estimated

This calculator uses Naegele’s rule: the due date is 280 days (40 weeks) after the first day of the last menstrual period, adjusted if your cycle is longer or shorter than 28 days.

The date is an estimate. Always follow the guidance of your doctor or midwife, who may confirm or change it with an ultrasound scan.
